Dallas Cowboys Trade for Brandin Cooks!

Whoop whoop it looks like we have anudder trade down in D-town. The Cowboys have sent a 2023 5th and 2024 6th in exchange for WR Brandin Cooks. My reaction: Let’s go Brandon!

I’m not going to be one of those losers that pretends they’ve watched any Texans games over the last few years, they’re so ass it’s painful. Cooks also didn’t play against Dallas this year, so I don’t have any anecdotal data to go off. However that’s never stopped me from giving my deep expert analysis! I fuck with this move, personally. Obviously it would have been cooler/sexier to add Deandre Hopkins, but the price of contract + picks + his age may not have been TOTALLY worth it at this point. Still, if he only goes for a 2nd round pick, I’ll wish we had done that deep down. Nevertheless, Cooks is still an upgrade and I’m glad Jerry seems to have a pulse again.

While I like this move, I still can’t help but look at the past moves and get salty. Big picture, we pretty much swapped Amari Cooper for Brandin Cooks. I would say Coop is the better player, so our core still won’t be on the level of 2021. Imagine if we had just NOT traded Amari for a 5th round pick, let Gallup walk, and added Cooks. The law firm of Ceedee, Cooks, and Cooper would be a DAMN good WR core. Lots of speed and no one coming off an ACL tear. I still wouldn’t mind testing the waters on the market for Michael Gallup. I bet it’s nonexistent but if we could package him + a 4th or a 5th or whatever picks we have left for a star player, I’d love that. It doesn’t even have to be a WR. We need interior DL and OL help right now, so we could just trade for one and draft WR with our first pick. Right now the Cowboys share a lot in common with Simone Biles: flexibility. That’s why these past few moves have been so great, we still kept our top 3 picks, and have no glaring weaknesses. We can allocate those resources to attaining the best possible players without worrying about positional need.

Coincidence?

My biggest takeaway from this offseason is that I hope we’ll continue to run our team like this moving forward. Being strategically aggressive in the offseason CONTINUOUSLY will lead to better results over time. A one-off offseason of good moves likely won’t lead to much. I’m not sure we have any more trades left in us, and I don’t even know whose available in free agnency. Overall, it’s been a nice offseason for The Boys and I refuse to complain any more than I have. I will NOT stop complaining about our head coach who doesn’t want to score points. I wonder if he’ll even use Brandin Cooks, since that would mean we have to install the forward pass in our playbook.

2023 just might be our year.
